The Holy Post - Jan.09

Dear Friends,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  For the past month there have been fewer people at the gym where I work out in the mornings.  Next week it will be packed again.  New Year’s Resolutions!

Our congregation has been involved in a ReFocus process of looking at where we have been (Summit 1), thinking about where we are going (Summit 2) and determining how we get there (Summit 3).  On February 7, we move into the implementation phase.  Now comes the most important and hardest part.

Just like a person who gets on the scales, sees where they are and knows where they have been (Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations), the most important part to better health is actually sticking to the diet and getting the exercise.  (I have joined Weight Watchers 73 times.)  Change is hard, but it’s the only way to improve our lives.

In ReFocus we are being challenged to act, to put into practice what we believe God wants us to do.  As we move into the future, the best advice I have found is what God said to Joshua as he prepared to cross over into the promised land, “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
