Dear Friends,
Thanksgiving is an important national holiday. However, Thanks-giving is an even more important practice for our everyday lives. I can think of nothing that helps my spiritual and psychological well-being more than simply taking time each day to give thanks. Let me share three benefits I experience. Perhaps you experience these, too.
1. When I give thanks, I focus on what God has given me, which reminds me how much God loves me. There is nothing more powerful in life than to be connected to the love of God. Giving thanks fills me with God’s love. It reminds me that I am truly blessed.
2. When I give thanks, it reminds me how important the people are in my life. Giving thanks helps me to refocus on who and what are most important. It helps me put priorities where they belong–God, people, everything else.
3. When I give thanks I have, it reminds me how wealthy I am–not only in terms of material possessions but with friends and family. When I focus on the things I do have, it drowns out voices and obscures the images of things I am told I need. What I want becomes less important when I give thanks for what I have. Contentment overshadows greed for a change. Craving gives way to celebrating.
Gratitude is a great attitude for a positive lifestyle.
